Description & Tour Details
The Sulfur Mines Volcano site is located west of Sierra Negra Volcano, about 11 km from the “El Cura” park control post. The tour begins from Puerto Villamil with a ride through the highlands of Isabela, before starting the hike toward the sulfur fields.
The full experience lasts about 6 hours. After hotel pickup in Puerto Villamil (usually around 7:30 a.m.), you will travel by bus for about an hour to the highland region. Once at the control post, the group continues to the trailhead. From there, expect approximately 2 hours of hiking uphill to the sulfur mines and fumaroles, followed by about 2 hours return. For those seeking more adventure, this hike can also be arranged by bicycle. Custom or private schedules are available upon request.
