Sierra Negra Volcano Tour Itinerary
Between 7:00–7:30 a.m. – Meeting Point
Meet at the designated point in Puerto Villamil where your guide will welcome you and provide all relevant instructions.
Around 7:45 a.m. – Transfer to the National Park Headquarters
Board ground transport to the Galápagos National Park entry point.
Approx. 8:15 a.m. – Begin Journey toward the Volcano
Enjoy the scenic bus ride through northern Isabela, where the vegetation gets denser as altitude increases. Sierra Negra sits at about 1,124 meters above sea level and boasts an enormous caldera (~60 x 40 km).
Morning hours – Guided Hike & Viewpoints
After a briefing at the park control point, begin the hike toward the second viewpoint. Take in the views of solidified lava flows, volcanic features, and surrounding greenery while your guide explains geology, history, and ecological significance.
Late morning – Nature Exploration
Continue walking through protected areas, observing birdlife, volcanic flora, and the possibility of encountering giant tortoises.
Around midday – Return to Transport
Head back to the bus and start the return journey to Puerto Villamil.
Early afternoon – End of Tour
Estimated arrival back in Puerto Villamil. Times may vary depending on group pace and conditions.
